Following the Monday, April 15, 2013, Boston Marathon attacks, the LCMS is fully prepared to do one of the things she does best: show mercy to those who are suffering. LCMS Disaster Response has been in touch with New England Distract President Timothy Yeadon, district staff and LCMS congregations in the Boston area, and the Rev. Carlos Hernandez, director, Church and Community Engagement, will be on scene.
LCMS President Matthew C. Harrison offers words of comfort following the tragedy in Boston: “Like the death of our Lord Christ Himself, we pray that, even in this dark hour, the sacrifice and pain of those affected will not be in vain, but redound in good as yet unseen.”
UPDATE FROM HATTIESBURG: The Rev. Glenn Merritt, director, LCMS Disaster Response, reports that utility crews are still hard at work restoring power to homes and businesses affected by last weekend’s tornado. The LCMS began reaching out Monday, Feb. 11, to LCMS families and the Hattiesburg, Miss., community after a tornado struck the city Sunday, Feb. 10. The storm caused major damage. According to early reports, it injured as many as 67 people and left up to 15 hospitalized.
